Rebuilding NOLA12.10.15

In August and September 2006, I traveled to New Orleans, LA to photograph and document the post-Katrina reconstruction. Specifically, my intent was to create portraits of the people rebuilding the city. At the time, thousands of individuals had traveled through South and Central America, hopped the border in Texas, and were working as day laborers in the city.

A colleague (videographer) and I shared our media in the New York area thereafter.

These media include:

(1) Images of the day labor situation in Post-Katrina New Orleans

(2) Recordings of corridos, story-songs, rewritten with themes reflecting the New Orleans situation and experience. I recorded this corrido in a Lowe’s parking lot while the fellows were waiting for work.
